Rakesh Sharma is a former Indian Air Force wing commander and astronaut. He was the first Indian citizen to travel in space. Rakesh Sharma flew aboard the Soviet spacecraft Soyuz T-11 in 1984 as part of the Intercosmos program, which allowed non-Soviet cosmonauts to fly on Soviet space missions.
